The main websites in Europe brought the attack against Israel to the headlines accompanied by regular reports, some of them even broadcast live from Israel. When many times all the first major articles that appear on the site deal with the subject.
The German “Habild” website, which is known to hold the line supporting Israel, devoted the three main articles on its website to the attack and its results. In the main headline it was published that, “Air attack in various places: Iran attacked Israel with rockets and drones”.
At the same time, German Chancellor Olaf Schulz condemned the Iranian attack, saying that “the attack on Israel that Iran launched tonight is irresponsible and unjustified. Iran risks igniting. We stand by Israel and will discuss the rest with our allies.” German Foreign Minister Anlana Barbuk warned that the Iranian attack against Israel could “degenerate the entire Middle East into chaos.” According to her, “We strongly condemn the attack”.
On the website of the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, which is considered to be conservative and supports Israel, it is written: “Israel stands firm: the IDF announces that it shot down more than 200 drones and missiles fired by Iran, with the assistance of the Royal Air Force. In Jerusalem and other places, sirens were heard ringing in Jerusalem and civilians Terrified Israelis are running to shelters.”
In the British “Guardian”, a newspaper that is often critical of Israel, the main headline reads: “Israel reported minor damage to a military base after a ‘limited number’ of Iranian missiles fell on its territory” and an IDF spokesman is quoted later who informed about the firing of about 200 missiles and drones to Israel. The British newspaper also wrote that, “The attack comes almost two weeks after an Israeli attack in Damascus killed a senior Iranian commander.”
At the same time, the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom said in the background of the Iranian attack that the British Air Force “will intercept any air attack that will be in our range, as required”. The ministry added that “the British government is working with its partners in the Middle East to reduce the escalation and prevent further attacks.” Earlier, British Prime Minister Rishi Sonak strongly condemned the Iranian attack on Israel: “Iran has proven once again that it intends to sow chaos in its backyard. Britain will continue to stand for the security of Israel and all its regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq. Alongside our allies, we are working urgently to stabilize the situation and prevent further escalation. No one wants to see more bloodshed.”
The Spanish El Pais, which is affiliated with the left in the country, published in the main headline that “Iran attacks Israel with missiles and drones.” The subheading explained that, “Revolutionary Guards confirm the unprecedented attack against Israeli territory. In Jerusalem, several explosions were recorded that shook the windows of buildings. Netanyahu convenes the war cabinet. Biden met with the National Security Council.”
In the Italian La Repubblica, the four leading articles were devoted to the attack on Israel by Iran, “Iran attacks Israel with 200 drones and missiles: “99% were intercepted”. Biden’s appeal to Netanyahu: “Don’t respond”
The newspaper “Le Monde” highlights the meeting of the UN Security Council in the headline, “The Iranian attack on Israel: the UN Security Council meets urgently on Sunday, drones and missiles were intercepted.”
In the Dutch “De Telharf” they quoted the official Israeli report “almost all Iranian drones were intercepted”. In the second article on the website, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, is quoted, “Rutte ‘strongly’ condemns Iran’s attack on Israel”
The Swiss SRF chose the main headline to describe the large barrage of missiles fired at Israel, “Israel reports more than 200 Iranian drones and missiles”.
The Austrian ORF reported extensively on the attack in the main news on the site, “After days of threats, Iran launched an attack on Israel on Sunday night. According to Israel, over 200 drones, rockets and cruise missiles were fired at various targets and almost all of them were intercepted. According to Israeli reports, one child was seriously injured. Additional threats came from Iran, including against the United States.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said:
“Canada unequivocally condemns Iran’s attacks against Israel. We stand with Israel. After supporting the brutal attack by Hamas on October 7, the latest actions of the Iranian regime will further destabilize the region and make lasting peace more difficult. These attacks demonstrate the Iranian regime’s disregard for peace and stability in the region. We support Israel’s right to defend itself and its people against these attacks. We are in contact with our allies, and we will continue to monitor them closely.”
Argentina’s President Javier Maile also condemned the attack:
“Argentina expresses solidarity and unwavering commitment to the State of Israel, in the face of the attacks initiated by the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Argentine Republic recognizes the right of nation states to defend themselves, and firmly supports the State of Israel in defending its sovereignty, especially against regimes that promote terrorism and seek to destroy Western civilization.”
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned Iran’s attack against Israel, saying that:
“This is a serious escalation that could be devastating to the region. I call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint in order to avoid any action that could lead to major military conflicts on several fronts in the Middle East. I have repeatedly emphasized that neither the region nor the world can afford another war.”
