Tamar Elbaz, a fourth-year student in the fashion design department at Shenkar, won first place in the Real Leather international fashion competition. Stay Different. International Design, in the Apparel category and joint first place in the Overall category. This is the second year in a row that students from Shankar have taken the first places in the competition. Last year, Gal Binyamin, a former student at Shankar, won first place with his final project.
Tamar Elbaz came in first place with a leather suit she designed in the leather clothing project in year 3 under the guidance of Yossi Katsav and Gilad Yona. The inspiration for the project was the sculpture “Human concretion” by the artist Jean-Hans Herp.
The model gives expression to the blurring of the boundaries between body and clothing, and the way in which the biomorphic form of the body is reflected in it. The model is made entirely of sheepskin, and is constructed of two parts: a jacket that was designed in a process of free modeling and pants that were designed and cut using the CLO3D 3D software. To complete the outfit, she designed a 3D printed bag, in collaboration with the artist Yarin Didi.
