9 restaurants from Israel on the list of the best in the world

From the list of the 1000 best restaurants in the world by “Le List”, nine restaurants are Israeli, eight of them in Tel Aviv and one of them is located in Jerusalem.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents to the world the list of the thousand best restaurants in the world – La Liste – as a kind of counter, an alternative to the well-known ranking lists and second to the fifty best and the Michelin that we have been waiting for and will not arrive.
This list was built following the claim that all the known rating lists are unreliable and mainly financially biased and there is a disregard for the developing trends in the culinary world and the opinion of bloggers and the people themselves who eat. That’s why the French built the list by weighing world guides, reputable magazines such as the New York Times, bloggers from around the world and more. There is quite a bit of appreciation and importance for this list and it does affect the restaurants, but on the other hand quite a few raise an eyebrow that popular restaurants are not on the list.

Every year the list is published in Paris and weighs data from more than a thousand food guides from 200 countries (from Michelin and Zagat, through the New York Times to sites like TripAdvisor and Yelp). The prestigious rating is carried out with the help of an algorithm that distributes scores in the range of 75.00 to 95.50 points. Therefore, the list does not indicate a ranking of the restaurants from the best to the least good, but the grades.

It turns out that no less than nine Israeli restaurants made the list of the thousand most successful restaurants in the world:

Chef Raz Rahab’s OCD (score 91.50).

Mashya of the Barka House group led by chef Guy Arish (score 86.50);

-Alena by chefs Daniel Tzur and Omer Shadmi (score 86.00);

Manta ray by chef Ronen Skenzes (score 82.00);

-Pastel by chef Gal Ben-Moshe (score 80.00);

-Chakra by chef Eran Peretz (score 79.00);

-George & John by chef Tomer Tal (score 78.50);

-L’Epoque by Robuchon by chef Eugene Koval – who preserves the legacy of Joel Robuchon (score 78.00)

Chef Eyal Shani’s living room (score 75.50).

All the restaurants, as mentioned, are located in Tel Aviv, except the Jerusalem Chakra.

In the 2024 ranking – six restaurants share the same maximum score of 95.50, therefore they are all considered the best in the world. This is the British L’Enclume; in French Guy Savoy and La Vague d’or; in the German Schwarzwaldstube; at the Hong Kong Lung King Heen and the Japanese Sushi Saito.

Le Liste’s list has been published regularly since 2015, and among its main sponsors are the French luxury goods corporation LVMH, the airline Air France and the hotel group Accor – also from France.
