Israel is a small country, but as in high-tech and cyber, so also in terms of agricultural technology, the whole world is looking at us: what we do, what we develop, how we grow, how we sort, how we market and what is the next invention that comes from the Land of Israel.
In recent years we have witnessed countless technological developments made by Blue and White, related to the world of agriculture, and the canvas is short of containing them all.

dropper –
Accessory, which releases water in small streams (“drip”). Invented by the Israeli engineer Simcha Blas and his son Yeshayahu in the early 1960s. The invention caused a global revolution in the methods of irrigation and fertilization in agriculture, and led to saving water and increasing crops.
Determining the 16 elements needed to grow a plant and their exact dosage –
The basis for hydroponics, gravel crops, drippers and the like.
Prof. Meir Shurtz. Negev Research Institute. 70s of the 20th century.
Cherry tomatoes
Yes, yes, cherry tomatoes are an Israeli development. In fact, they were developed about 15 years ago in several research institutes in Israel. The most prominent group was led by Prof. Nachum Kidar from the Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot in collaboration with the “Hazare” company. At first they were called TV tomatoes, because they were thought of as a healthy snack in front of the TV.
Hybrid cucumber seeds –
Production of seeds of cucumbers and melons, salt-resistant cucumbers and cucumbers suitable for mechanical harvesting. Prof. Ezra Galon from the Weizmann Institute. Gallon and his colleagues invented a technique to produce hybrid cucumber seeds without manual pollination. 50s of the 20th century.
Domesticating the Golden Hamster –
Made by Prof. Shaul Adler, an expert in the theory of parasites from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, in 1930.
TraitUP –
A technology that allows the introduction of genetic materials into seeds without changing their DNA, immediately and effectively to improve the plants before they are sown. Developed by Prof. Ilan Sela and Dr. Haim Rabinovitch, The Hebrew University.
Collecting dew from the air to irrigate agricultural crops –
Tel-Ya company.
Daniela tomato –
A tomato variety developed by Dr. Ehud Kopliowitz and Naomi Gabish, cultivated by the team of Prof. Nahum Kider from the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University in Rehovot. A particularly resistant variety, with a long shelf life and a large harvest, which is currently considered one of the most common varieties in the world.[72][73][74]
Improvement and development of plant varieties –
The Volcani Institute is very active in creating fruit and vegetable varieties without genetic engineering, with an emphasis on improving properties such as resistance to special weather conditions and water consumption, flavor improvement, disease resistance, fast growing, seedless fruits and more.
Agriculture in the desert –
Israeli farmers have gained experience in developing agriculture in desert conditions and thus various countries in the world have received advice and assistance on the subject from Israel.
natural pest control –
Pesticides from natural sources or based on plant extracts, “Da Kedem” company from Moshav Gan Haim.
Integrated biological control –
Pesticides in agricultural crops using animals and insects that harm the harmful insects. Bio Bay Company. Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu.
Ecological fish ponds –
The system makes it possible to raise fish almost anywhere by eliminating the environmental problems of conventional fish farming, without dependence on electricity or near water. GFA company.
Misting and humidity systems –
Systems that allow for cooling areas and minimizing the use of pesticides (MGNZ – small volume back fogger, MTZ, “Mister Cool”, and “Galil”). A.R.N.
A small watermelon weighing 2 kg, identical in taste to the regular watermelon –
A small watermelon, weighing only two kilograms, is an Israeli development of the company “HaZera Genetics”, which developed the “personal watermelon” based on market research, in which it was found that 90% of Israelis choose to buy half a watermelon, due to the difficulty of carrying a whole watermelon home 2006.
A yellow watermalon –
The person behind the new variety is the farmer Uri Rabinovitz who lives in Moshav Tsupit near Kfar Saba.
An apple of the “Ena” variety –
Developed by hybridizing two apple varieties, by Abba Stein, a member of Kibbutz Ein Shemer.
“Maya system” –
Technological development of the Northern Fertilizer Company, which makes the work of the farmer in the field easier. Instead of physically going to each fertilizer tank in a plot to monitor the stock, the system allows simple monitoring of the fertilizer stock from the smartphone, and sends an alert to the farmer when the stock is minimal – which saves valuable time in the farmer’s routine work.
Spraying:
Skyx company – there is a technological development, which allows a group of different drones to work together, to spray agricultural fields accurately, efficiently and safely.
FieldIn (Field-in) –
An Israeli start-up from the TerraLab technological incubator of the Terra Foundation in Ne’am, which currently operates in Israel, California and Australia.
This is a platform for managing the entire growing process on the farm, from the sowing process, preparing the land for the next season to harvesting. The platform helps the breeder manage the farm like a smart production line, where decisions are made based on real-time data from the field.
CropX –
An Israeli start-up in the field of precision agriculture, and even recently announced the purchase of the competing company CropMetrics. He developed an advanced technological system, which analyzes the field data and the irrigation and fertilization performance and provides the farmer with advanced capabilities to optimize his performance: increasing crop yields and reducing water, fertilization and energy costs.
Become a farmer without experience –
GrowDirector’s Israeli startup allows anyone, without knowledge or experience, to become a farmer and grow fruits and vegetables completely automatically at home or outdoors. The development also helps farmers by eliminating the need to be present 24/7 in the growing environment and allowing them to control all systems with a simple application.
Banana flavored cucumber and new varieties of vegetables and fruits
We have also not lacked the development of new vegetable and fruit varieties in recent years. For example, the “Hazare” company, which is one of the leading companies in the world in the cultivation, production and marketing of caged seeds of vegetables and field crops, presented several new developments:
Foxy (a unique golden-yellow cantaloupe type melon with green stripes, with high firmness and a long shelf life);
Toledo eggplant (its uniqueness is that it does not absorb oil during frying);
Dora tomato (which allows easy and convenient peeling with a peeler and is cut without leaks)
Lettuce “Mona” – has an open structure, with a very short flowering stalk and plenty of young leaves in the center, which makes it possible to get single and uniform leaves for a salad in one cut.
Other recent innovations were Kiwano, a sweet banana-flavored cucumber, rich in vitamin C, a development by R&D researchers (research and development) in the Middle and Northern Prairie;
“Tipah” tomatoes from Mesk Kdama in the Middle Arava, which are smaller in size and weight
